What’s the difference between the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S24?

Samsung has unveiled the latest series of flagship phones for 2024. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the top-tier luxury pick, while the Samsung Galaxy S24 is the lower-end option. Let us compare the two.

Admittedly, the new Samsung phones do not appear to differ from prior models. Still, it is the internals, as well as an unsurprising artificial intelligence (AI) push, that will set the new range apart. You’re probably wondering if you can get by with the normal Galaxy S24 or if the Galaxy S24 Ultra is worth the extra money.

GALAXY S24 VS THE GALAXY S24 ULTRA: SPECS COMPARISON

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra features a larger, higher-resolution screen than the normal Samsung Galaxy S24, as well as more and better cameras. These are likely the two most compelling reasons to spend the additional money on this, but they are far from the only ones.

It also includes a larger battery, which provides longer life and faster charging, a somewhat more powerful processor, greater potential storage, and a S Pen stylus. Is it worth the extra money? That depends on how important these features are to you, but the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is unquestionably one of the best phones you can buy.

On the other hand, the basic Samsung Galaxy S24 is no slouch, providing much of the same experience in a smaller package and at a lower cost, making it an excellent alternative for some.

CAMERA

The cameras on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra help to justify its high price. This phone boasts a quad-lens back camera, which includes a 200MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom.

The normal Samsung Galaxy S24, on the other hand, just sports a triple-lens camera: a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. In other words, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra features an additional lens that increases the telephoto length to 5x (and allows for an optical quality crop at 10x), as well as a much more pixel-dense main sensor.

It’s a breathtakingly good camera system, and while the ordinary Galaxy S24 can still produce excellent photos, it can’t compete with the S24 Ultra. Both phones, however, offer a 12MP front-facing camera, AI-powered picture editing tools, and the ability to shoot video at up to 8K resolution.

DESIGN AND DISPLAY

Even at first glance, the Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra look significantly different. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra boasts an angular, boxy shape, with a rippled back camera and a slot for the bundled S Pen pen. The regular Samsung Galaxy S24 features curved sides, fewer rear cameras, and no S Pen pen.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is likewise larger and heavier than the Samsung Galaxy S24, measuring 162.3 x 79 x 8.6mm and weighing 232g, vs 147 x 70.6 x 7.6mm and 167g.

The Ultra also employs more expensive materials, such as a titanium frame instead of an aluminum one, and its screen and back are protected by Gorilla Glass Armour, whilst the standard Samsung Galaxy S24 uses less durable Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Both phones, however, have the same level of dust and water resistance, with an IP68 rating that allows them to be submerged up to 1.5 meters deep for 30 minutes.

Finally, the colors they offer are similar but not identical. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra comes in Titanium Black, Titanium Gray, Titanium Violet, Titanium Yellow, Titanium Blue, Titanium Green, and Titanium Orange, whereas the standard Samsung Galaxy S24 comes in Onyx Black, Marble Grey, Cobalt Violet, Amber Yellow, Jade Green, Sandstone Orange, and Sapphire Blue.

The screens of these two phones differ significantly, with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra measuring 6.8 inches and the ordinary Samsung Galaxy S24 measuring 6.2 inches.

It is not only larger but also has a higher resolution of 1440 x 3120 (for 505 pixels per inch) than the Galaxy S24, which has 1080 x 2340 and 416 pixels per inch. However, both phones employ AMOLED displays, feature a 120Hz refresh rate, and have a peak brightness of 2,600 nits.

Overall, they both have excellent screens, albeit some people will prefer the more compact size of the normal Samsung Galaxy S24 display. However, if you want one of the best smartphone screens, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is the sole option out of the two.

HOW’S THE PERFORMANCE?

Another advantage of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is its large 5,000mAh battery, as opposed to the smaller 4,000mAh battery on the Samsung Galaxy S24.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy S24 Ultra can withstand up to 28 hours of internet usage, 30 hours of video playback, or 95 hours of audio, but the basic Samsung Galaxy S24 can withstand up to 25 hours of internet usage, 29 hours of video, or 78 hours of audio.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra also charges faster, at up to 45W, vs 25W for the ordinary Galaxy S24 – but both enable 15W wireless charging.

Memory options for the Samsung Galaxy S24 include 128GB or 256GB, while the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra offers 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB. So, if you require a lot of storage, the Ultra is also the best option. Both phones, however, support 5G and Bluetooth 5.3.
