iPhone 15 vs iPhone 14 Pro: Has Apple Truly Outdone Itself?

The iPhone 15 is an unusual phone in that it shares several features with the iPhone 14 Pro, including a Dynamic Island, the same screen size, and the same CPU.

So, how different are these phones? And which phone is the best overall? We’ve completed a detailed iPhone 15 review and an iPhone 14 Pro review, so we can answer both of those queries.

The significant similarities and differences between the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 15 are outlined below, so you can decide whether to buy Apple’s new phone or an older Pro.

IPHONE 15 VS IPHONE 14 PRO: SPECS COMPARISON

Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 series last year, and despite their similar appearance, the new iPhones offer some significant advancements behind the hood. While the Pro models contain a new chipset, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus provide a mix of new features (including the same A16 Bionic chip as in the iPhone 14 Pro) and certain drawbacks.

The most important modifications to the ordinary iPhone 15 models are the Dynamic Island and the USB Type-C port, which could propel them to our best phones list this year. However, the iPhone 15 misses a few features from the earlier iPhone 14 Pro, like a dedicated telephoto camera and a faster display refresh rate. This raises the question of whether you should consider the new iPhone 15 or the older iPhone 14 Pro.

CAMERA

The iPhone 14 Pro has a triple-camera configuration that includes a 48-megapixel main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and two 12MP telephoto sensors that offer 2x and 3x optical zoom. At the time of our study, we believed that this was the greatest camera phone on the market, producing excellent images regardless of the conditions. It can switch to Night Mode far faster than its predecessor, the iPhone 13 Pro, and images taken in the daytime are exceptionally sharp.

In comparison, the iPhone 15 has a dual camera arrangement, but Apple has made some significant upgrades. It contains a 48-megapixel primary sensor, as well as a 12MP ultrawide and telephoto sensor with 2x digital zoom, but lacks the Pro models’ dedicated telephoto lens.

The bigger primary sensor produces crisper, more detailed photographs that may be zoomed into without losing clarity. Deep Fusion and Smart HDR, which are also available on the iPhone 14 Pro, produce bright and oversaturated colors regardless of the topic.

DESIGN AND DISPLAY

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 are visually extremely similar. The former has a 6.1-inch screen, a glass back, a stainless steel frame, and a Dynamic Island instead of a notch, while the latter has the same features but a frame made of aluminum rather than stainless steel.

As a result, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 have relatively identical proportions, measuring 147.5 x 71.5 x 7.9mm and 147.6 x 71.6 x 7.8mm. Their weights differ, with the iPhone 15 weighing 171g and the iPhone 14 Pro weighing 206g more. The available colors also differ; the iPhone 14 Pro is available in Deep Purple, Gold, Silver, and Space Black, whilst the iPhone 15 comes in Pink, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Black.

We’ve discovered that the iPhone 15 screen is the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro, with an equal resolution of 1179 x 2556. However, the iPhone 15 only has a 60Hz refresh rate, but the iPhone 14 Pro has a 120Hz display, giving the older phone an advantage in that regard. The iPhone 15 does not have an always-on display like the iPhone 14 Pro, but it can rival the iPhone 14 Pro in brightness, reaching at 2,000 nits.

Both phones feature outstanding panels, which we commended in our evaluations, but the iPhone 14 Pro’s display is the better of the two, thanks to its faster refresh rate and always-on capabilities.

HOW’S THE PERFORMANCE?

Both of these phones include the Apple A16 Bionic chipset, which has a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU. This chip introduced various new capabilities, such as Car Crash Detection, which uses the phone’s sensitive accelerometer to warn emergency services after a collision, as well as a useful emergency SOS feature.

We discovered that the iPhone 14 Pro was easy to operate, with no lagging or stuttering during our testing period. The iPhone 15 had a very similar story, with our Editor claiming that it’s an extremely competent chipset for the price. This chip can outperform much more expensive Android handsets, so you can be confident that you will not experience any problems with day-to-day surfing or gaming.
